Title: Stabilize high framerate recording
Post by: theman on August 10, 2015, 02:10:54 AM
Some games like Advanced Warfare have weird max framerates like 91fps, and they're very fast paced with lots of rapid turns. In the case of AW and other Call of Duty games they're based on the Quake 3 engine which outputs frames at 1000ms/n, so you get framerates like 125, 90.90 and so on. Plus different games present different CPU loads and they'll only get more greedy in the future. So I'd like to find the setup with the best frame latency; quality can be sacrificed. Then in processing there's enough information to go to 30 or 60fps with nice motion blur rather than choppiness.

So which codec has the lowest overall overhead? MagicYUV has fared the best so far, I've got AW recording stable at 1280x720 and 90fps. But ideally I'd like to go all the way to 1080p@120fps. I still have yet to overclock my i5 2500K which should afford me some extra CPU overhead. Raw video is too much bandwidth to feasibly deal with. GPU encoders seem to be very unstable past 60fps. Has anyone else been down this road and can share some tips?
