Hi, I'm new to Dxtory but already loving it but, I don't know if this has already been posted in a previous thread but I just wanted some information on my recordings, they seems to look a little grainy and odd after I have finished recording a game.
I don't know if this is something to do with settings I am using or the codec (matrox codec) or if its just something you can get rid of in post editing, (I only record the videos, not edit them).
The problem is that when I watch the videos afterwards they seem to have a grainy effect on them like static, its hard to capture in a screenshot but I've tried my best, its noticeable in the areas I've marked out, as I said is this just something that gets sorted out or is my Dxtory not set up properly etc?
Any information would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Please submit a Environment Information.

What bitrate are you using with Matrox?
Hi, how do I check bit rate on the codec? and here is my Environment information as well,
Thanks.
If you use a lossy codec, I think that it is a natural result.
I answer nothing about encoding.
Well then what's the best codec to use for 1080P recording, with minimal loss etc?
The Dxtory Codec on Medium should work fine.
Sorry as I said I'm new to it, how would I change it to medium? and will that still run 60fps? at the moment I'm using this one - see attachment.
The little pencil next to the Codec Name, increase the Bitrate of the Matrox Codec to somewhere between 150 & 250, if you're recording at 60 fps, make sure it's 60 fps in there as well.
Hi, thanks for the response, I tried that and put it onto 250mb, and it still persisted, are there any other codecs that are better than Matrox for recording HD 60fps? that might not have these problems?
Thanks.
Try the Matrox Uncompressed HD Codec or the Dxtory Codec at Medium quality
Thanks, I'll try them in the morning and get back to you soon as, thank you :)
Sure thing.
Hi, I tried the Matrox uncompressed that seemingly fixed the (grainy) issue, but would not run above 30 fps despite being set on 60fps, and I messed around with the dxtory codec from full to RGB to medium and they as well seemed to fix the grain issue but all were giving me around 20fps frame drops, so I'm going to have to compensate somewhere.
Thanks.
Try utvideo: http://www.videohelp.com/software/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite
hi, thank you aznricepuff that codec works amazingly, just one more question, are there any settings and configurations etc in the codec and little pen icon settings that you would recommend for optimal results that you know of from experience?
I'm using the one highlighted at the moment with no changes but I don't know if it's the best out of the lot.
Once again thank you.
The different utvideo codecs let you select between colorspaces and different levels of chroma subsampling. The RGB codec will give you true lossless capture (vs. the chroma-subsampled YUV codecs, which will force a colorspace conversion and then throw away some chroma information) but will take up the most space as well.
The codec-specific settings (the pen icon) should be fine at their defaults. You can freely switch between "optimize for file size" and "optimize for decode speed" based on your preference. It doesn't affect quality (it's a lossless codec, after all) or encode performance.
Cheers for the information, I'm quite liking this codec, and I'm happy with the RGB codec.
Once again thank you, been a great help.
So has everybody who has responded as well :D
If utVideo Codec doesn't do it for you Try Lagarith Codec @ YV12
