Title: Recording w/Virtual Surround
Post by: Fish on July 27, 2013, 11:31:44 AM
Hello!

If I record with Virtual (or even actual) Surround is this going to mess up the sound on Youtube? I realize that Youtube recompile it to stereo audio. But my question is, if I play and record with surround sound, is Youtube still going to get good quality stereo audio, or will it be messed up (missing the center channel sounds, etc.)?

I haven't tested it yet but Youtube is supposed to allow 5.1

Here are some current guidelines they publish -- https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

So it looks like AAC is game..   You can record  IEEE Float format 5.1  assuming Dxtory will pick it up  (some games refuse to record surround sound for me)  and then you can run that through  MeGUI with the  Nero AAC: NDAAC-LC Multichannel Profile.  (just select your Dxtory output AVI as the audio source)

bullshit, youtube encodes to stereo.

And yes it would get messed up, because it will sound all very centered if multichannel is downmixed to stereo.

record and play in stereo.

If I record video with virtual surround using my Sound Blaster Z its picked up in the recording, but I'm using the MP3 audio codec which records in stereo anyways
