Title: Question about Dxtory vs. Codec; Cpu Cores/Threads selection.
Post by: HyperSlayer72 on January 13, 2016, 09:09:24 AM
I love that you can select what cores/threads to have dxtory use when capturing.  If using more simple codecs like the dxtory provided default the interfac works flawlessly.
However, if using a codec such as the UtVideo Codec, an interface is provided to select a frame divide count.  I am not fully shure what a frame divide is I will admit but it would appear that lowering the number reduces cpu usage but can result in a lack of resources for the actual codec result in less than the desired framerate being captured.

So here is my question should I leave the Utvideo setting as default and utilize the dxtory interface or should I utilize them both?  I apologize if this question is hard to understand.

One more thing, task manager can allow me to view my individual cores usage but I find it a litte difficult to work with.  Does anyone recommend a program that can track my individual cores/threads usage in the form of a percentage?

AFAIK, the cores/threads settings in DxTory only affect things like scaling and clipping and such things DxTory does to the captured image. Video codec does whatever it does according to its own settings. DxTory can run on 1 thread and the codec on 8.
