I normally record using Shadowplay to avoid the performance hit. But I'm tired of having zero control over my audio. So I've decided to come back to Dxtory. Does anyone out there have any advice for the best possible hardware setup? Here's my current stats:
Asus Sabertooth z87 Mobo
Intel Core i7 4770k @ 4.8Ghz
256GB SSD for OS/Programs
1TB SSD for Games
2x 1TB WD Black 7200 RPM HDD's in RAID0 for recording (Benchmark at 237 MB/sec in Dxtory)
EVGA GTX 1080 SC
BenQ 1440p monitor
When recording, particularly at 1440p/60, there's a rather large hit to my framerate. I want to minimize that. Get it as close to zero as humanly possible. Yes, I understand that it will never get all the way down to zero. But, in theory, what is the hardware setup that will get me closest to that? Do I need faster HDD's? Do I need 2 SSD's to record to? What's the answer? Do I need to build a second computer and somehow jumper over to that to record? Is there a better codec to try? I don't care what the answer is, I just want to reduce the framerate hit as much as possible.
So what is the dream setup for recording with Dxtory?
4x 1TB Barracudas in RAID 0 was enough for the 1440p60 recording with Dxtorys codec at medium quality.
WD Blacks are similar in performance or maybe a bit faster, don't know.
Although there were occasional hiccups that were fixed by upgrading to 6x drives in RAID 0 which is totally overkill :P

230MB/s is enough for 1440p @ 60fps. I'd say the CPU is bottlenecking here, as most games are able to use all four cores. Get one of the new 2011-v3 K CPUs, if you have the money.
I'd probably go with something like this :

Dxtory codec at medium quality 1440p60 compressed vs uncompressed:
https://pilvigalleria.ucm.fi/p/1440p60_med_compressed.jpg
https://pilvigalleria.ucm.fi/p/1440p60_med_uncompressed.jpg
When I took those pics the CPU (6700k@4,5) usage was 13% for uncompressed and 48% for compressed.
I prefer uncompressed because it's much easier for post production and easier on the CPU when recording.
That's why I was recommending 4x drives for a raid 0.

Why use the Dxtory standard codec, when MagicYUV and UtVideo are superior?
Intel RST RAID 1 read data simultaneously from both drives as RAID 0 = quick read (http://rodi.sk/misc/intel-rapid-storage-technology-ssd-intel-535-240gb-raid-1-benchmark/) and the data is protected. I assume that also RAID 10 combines the advantages of both...
Without RAID1 Seq Read: 498.2 MB/s
With RAID1 Seq Read: 938.4 MB/s
