Title: What is the best codec for recording BF4/Battlefield 4 on PC ?
Post by: ZugzwangGroo on December 24, 2016, 01:07:50 AM
Hello all,

I was just wondering what would be the best codec for recording Battlefield 4 on pc would be. Right now I am using the  x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 codec, but I am getting ready to try a UTVideo codec, so we will see. Can I post videos that contrast the two on here? I am a noob lol

THanks,

            Groo

Any newer lossless codec (e.g. MagicYUV, UtVideo) will be good and perform similarly. x264 is a lossy codec, so comparing them in terms of quality is unfair.

You cannot upload videos here, if you upload them to YouTube, the difference will be gone, because YouTube re-encodes with comparably low quality.

I use MagicYUV as I think it gives the best results. But there are two main downsides to it. One it produces relatively large files compared to some of the other codecs and two you have to pay for it. Personally I've got a 2TB RIAD0 drive I record to so the file size isn't really an issue, and I think it's well priced for the results it produces.

MagicYUV 1.2 was Pay-What-You-Want ($0 was allowed) and is now free.

Edit: Here are some benchmarks that could help you decide (looks like MagicYUV 2 is quite an improvement): http://umezawa.dyndns.info/wordpress/?p=6229 (http://umezawa.dyndns.info/wordpress/?p=6229)
