Title: low fps in some games
Post by: overdev on February 24, 2014, 01:05:30 AM
Hello.
First of all, sorry for my bad english.

In many games I have a FPS issue while recording it.
For example in the games Matrix Path of Neo, The Book of Unwritten Tales and Osu I just have 6-10 FPS!
Lego Marvel Super Heros 22 FPS.

But in Batman Arkham Origins the recording FPS and the ingame FPS (FPS of the game) dont come down like the examples above.
I can record Arkham Origins without any problems.

My recoding HDD is a 3 Terabyte Seagate Barracuda with a writing speed of 160 MB/s.
CPU is the Intel 2500k overclocked to 3,5 GhZ each core.

It doenst matter if I record with the DxTory Codec or with the Lagarith Lossless Codec.

I have attached my Envoirment Log!

I think that the speed of storage is slow.

It seems that the speed of your HD is accelerated by OS cache.

Please change a cache setting (Write-caching policy) of the storage.

Thanks for your answer.
It didn't worked. "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer" doesnt work for me :/

is it a USB-drive? Those rarely have the actual performance for recording stuff.

No its an internal 3 TB HDD with a write rate of 160 MB per second.
A view months ago I didnt have problems.

And it still works with some games.

defrag and/or checkdisk (error checking)? Could be that the filesystem has gotten "tangled" a bit. Also, the write rates of HDD's is not constant due to the way they work (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constant_angular_velocity (//https:///wiki/Constant_angular_velocity)), so the 160MB/s is probably the best case you get when writing to an optimal place (ie. empty disk).

Also, if it is a "green" hdd, ie it has power saving features, they are more often than not bad for recording purposes.

edit: also, results vary greatly between games due to how they are made. some games do different/weird things in the pipeline where their images are formed and can be very sensitive to capture software. some dxtory options might help, like "force downsampling", "disable delay processing" or such.

I defraged my recording HDD. That havn't solve the problem. Still the same.

Its wierd.
Some game working fine with recording but they feel like the recording FPS (25), but the ingame FPS are always 55, 60 or higher.
The ingame FPS of the games with just 10 Video FPS (recoding FPS) go down to the same number.
10 Video and InGame FPS.

Working games:
Almost all Unreal Engine Games (Batman Arkham City/Origins, Borderlands 2)
Half Life 2
Lego Harry Potter 1-4
Ghost Master
Max Payne 3

games make problems:
Matrix Path of Neo
Osu!
The Book of Unwritten Tales
Ducktals Resmastered

/EDIT
The solution was very simple. I have reinstalled my graphic card driver >.<
