Title: Suggestion: Stand alone frame limiter
Post by: Antmax on May 07, 2014, 02:31:54 AM
DXtory looks like a really cool tool. I came across when looking for a quick way to limit my FPS in games. It seems like a LOT of people use the trial version for this very purpose and nothing else.

I was wondering whether there was any chance of a standalone FPS limiter being released in the future at a reasonable price. If you don't need video capture then DXtory just for FPS limiting is a bit expensive.

There are other tools like Nvidia inspector, EVGA precision X or MSI Afterburner but they are not as reliable or have preset frame limits not exact numbers or use unnecessary resources.

I use it to allow me to get a consistent FPS on a slower video card without tearing in flight sims. Especially usefull when using head tracking which seems to make the FPS quite unpredictable. It also keeps temps down since the card does not have to work flat out all the time.

Thought it worth mentioning, just do a quick search for game frame limiting and you will see hundreds of hits, forum threads, video tutorials and blogs recommending DXtory for this very thing and how to set it up.

Can't you just use Dxtory Trial version for this purpose?

Yeah, but I'd rather pay a few bucks for something small that just sits in the background and doesn't have dialogs with timers when you start it up. DXtory is a 12mb process running in the background.

That's why I thought I'd suggest it.

Turn off framerate overlay and you won't even notice it's working in the background.

Are you implying that's a lot?
