Title: Dxtory Trial Taking Up to Much Space
Post by: CamtheMan96 on July 14, 2014, 06:24:28 AM
I found out about this Dxtory thing from a couple other famous youtubers. They said it worked really well. So I downloaded it. Keep in mind, I havent bought it yet so Im just using the trial, I downloaded the latest version and recorded one Minecraft Skywars episode with the default settings. I had audio on as I do commentaries. So when Im done the video is 6 minutes long and takes up 60 GB?!?!WHAT THE. Is this right? If so I don't think I'll be buying the product anymore, but I bet it is nothing wrong with the product and more likely something I've done. Please help!

You most likely didn't bother to set up anything and just rolled with default settings. By default Dxtory uses Dxtory video codec in RGB uncompressed mode which will rape your Hard Drive space.

Install a free video codec called Lagarith Lossless Video Codec (http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html), it's the best quality per performance video codec around. When you will install it, it will appear in your Dxtory Codec selection tool. Select Lagarith and in config tab enable "Use Multi-Threading" and switch mode to "YV12". This should reduce your future videos file size significantly.

There are other video codecs out there such as "x264" which will even further reduce your videos file size, but they don't have as good performance/quality value as Lagarith does.
