Hello!
I was just wondering what codec(s) i should use when im recording my gaming scenarios, i've been trying Dxtory's codec, it went good, no lags and so on, but the files went to big, 40 minutes = 115 GB.
Now i've tried MagicYUV, and that gives me a little lag and smaller files.
I don't know if i have the right settings and so on, is there anyone out there who knows the perfect codec and best settings for recording FPS, MMO and simulating games like CS:GO, BF4, WOW, DayZ, Sims 4, LOL and so on?
My computer setup:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Haswell Moderkort: MSI Z87-S02 Inet Edition Grafikkort: ASUS Radeon R9 280X 3GB DirectCUII TOP Minne: ADATA 16GB (2x8GB) CL9 1600MHz XPG INET EDITION Chassi: Fractal Design Define R4 Nätdel: be quiet! Power Zone 750W Bronze Modulär Diskar: Samsung SSD EVO Basic 840-Series 250GB x 2, 2TB Seagate Desktop HDD 7200rpm 64MB Optisk enhet: ASUS Intern BW-16D1HT Blu-Ray/DVD brännare Svart, Retail.
My internet is 250 mbit up/down.
Best Regards

Don't think you will get much more recommendations on Codecs Colt3n;P
It's , Lagarith , UT Video Codec and MagicYUV that's the primary choices in performance and size.
Well, you're probably right about that.
I've tried Lossless Lagarith, but it lags like hell when im playing FPS-games. Some people says that Lagarith are for 2D games, is it true?
I've also tried MagicYUV, it went better on FPS-games, but not good enough, a bit laggy.
But... When i tried UT Video Codec it went better than the other two. But it's not that good enough.
Do you know any good guides for every codec? What codec are for what games and so on?
Well, if you didn't notice, i am the same guy from Sweclockers;P
As i said there, it's pretty much 1 codec for all games Except Pixel games. It's the only exception.
You should pretty much use the codec that takes the least FPS hit. And if all are the same, take the one which gives the least size.
then there is x264vfw as well, and some variants of it which use AMD GPU for encoding.
But yea, like zerowalker said: lagarith, ut video codec and the like are your best options.
on less serious note: Game performance, Video quality, small file size. You can only pick 2 ;)
Yeah discussed that in another Forum a bit.
But i think if you have the ability to use Lossless, it's the best.
Only time you should use x264 (or similar) is when you either don't have space or time to do an encoding later.
Other than those two, lossless all days in the week, especially if you do any kind of editing (which is very common).
I use PICVideo M-JPEG. Its JPEG like the images but in video format. Obviously not lossless. But when you crank up the quality to max its close to it. And filesizes are a lot smaller too. Also really good for recording 60fps video in 1080p Because it doesn't really require much cpu power. You do however need a fast hdd. I cannot record at 100% quality on 60fps but on 99% it works perfectly fine. It is however not a free codec. But it works.

Oh snap! Didn't notice that as you probably see, lol.
Yes, but i still got some problems with the codecs, don't know what to do really. :/
