Having Difficulties Recording

I am able to use the default DXTory codec sometimes, but the video is very choppy, if I set the quality to high even in 720p, then it chokes my game recording. I am only using it to record FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X).

However, I cannot get other codecs to work, it always has a file locking problem and whenever I hit the shortcut key in-game to STOP dxtory's recording, it keeps going. Eventually it times out but the file was never recorded, I see a temp file, but then it just deletes the file. Again, this seems to be with any other CODEC but the default. I am on a fairly new Windows 7 machine (i5 w/8GB ram, 2GB VC) and don't have any issues with anything else in Windows ATM.
