x264 problems

Hi. I know it is not a Dxtory problem but I kinda need some help.
I installed the x264vfw codec and it worked perfectly with Dxtory. I managed to record games and play the video files with VLC.
However there is a slight problem when I try to edit those files with Adobe Premiere : it kept telling me "file not supported or damaged".
The weirdest is when I used ffmpeg.exe to convert the avi files into mp4 files : it worked perfectly with Adobe Premiere.

So first question: is there a way to open directly those video files with Premiere? Without having to use ffmpeg.exe?
Second question: is this possible possible for Dxtory to create mp4 files?

Thanks everyone and thanks ExKode!

1. I know, but I still need help :-)
I'm pretty sure many people using Dxtory are editing their videos with Premiere... Please help me guys.

2. Yes, I know, but I was thinking that maybe it could be implemented?

I had the same issue using x264 with premiere pro & sony vegas, what I did to fix was this:

Re-encode the file with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) free program.
It will convert it to mp4 using standard settings so premiere pro can use it.

Make sure "Large File Size" is checked, then change the settings in the video tab to the following --
H.264 (x264) codec
29.97 framerate
Constant framerate

You can tweak other settings to get better quality, but this will at least get you started.

You can watch the video in VLC because it contains its own codecs/decoders, independent of your system.  The real test on if you can decode them is A. your editing program which you cannot and B. Windows Media Player.  You need to install something to decode those files.  The VFWx264 build in decoder libav doesn't seem to work correctly in Windows 8 in my experience so you need to download the decoder elsewhere.  You can download a codec pack, but that is generally considered a bad idea on a computer you intend to edit on.  I have read the lavsplitter is able to decode h.264 in an avi container, but haven't tried it myself.

Thanks guys. I think I will stay with ffmpeg.exe solution at the moment.
I knew about Handbrake (a great tool!) but ffmpeg.exe convert the avi files into mp4 in a second.

Let's hope Dxtory will someday produce mp4 files :)

s far as we know Sony Vegas doesn't like H.264 in an AVI, MP4, MKV container. If you want to import H.264 files to Sony Vegas Pro flawlessly, I recommend you to change H.264 to a more editable format for Sony Vegas Pro.
