"Storage" issue/FPS high, recording FPS low

Whenever I record footage with Dxtroy, the game's FPS remains at a steady 55 - 60 FPS, but the recording FPS (as shown separately by Dxtory) drop to around 25 FPS and Dxtory complains about "Storage".

I'm not quite sure what that means. I have enough space on my recording HD, and other capture programs don't seem to have any writing speed issues - but they also fail to detect the game.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix this? I tried different codecs (Lagarith, MagicYUV, Dxtory Video Codec...) and played around with the settings (using all cores etc.), but the drop to 25 FPS remains.

Storage generally means your drive is too slow, post the environmental information for clarity.

Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory x2 = 16GB total
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive*
MSI AMD Radeon R9 390X Gaming Graphics Card 8GB
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

This is my recording drive. My OS, Dxtory, and the game run on a a different drive.

You have hints of about 4 other capture programs in your logs, are you making sure those are off while you are capturing ?

To rule out a storage bottleneck though, you could try using a ramdisk as a temporary storage drive and report back what you find.

If the games you are trying to capture are the old CnC games, then if nothing else seems to work you could try this Enb conversion mod

Yes. I just tried out a couple other programs.

I'll give it a shot. Could your recommend me a ramdisk program? The one actually called RAMDisk seems to be quite popular, but they don't seem to have a trial version of it.

Imdisk or Softperfect are both free and mature software

Using a RAM-based drive got my recording FPS up to 45. This is way better, but now Dxtory is complaining about the "GPU" where it was previously complaining about "Storage".

Under Advanced turn ON "Wait for Available Buffer"
If it makes no difference, try turning OFF - Force CPU processing

Does it make any difference if you are in window mode vs full screen ?


If all of the above changes have no effect, see what the Enb mod does for fps.
