My Dxtory doesn't work when i try to record! Please help?

Hello, i have recently installed dxtory. i've set everything up fine and followed numerous tutorials yet when i run a game, the fps overlay doesn't show and when i tested to see if it would still record it didn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
