Hi,

Does anyone know how to hookup Dxtory with the Oldschool Runescape client?

The client isn't currently a .lnk file because its a shortcut to the .exe, however Dxtory does not hook the game up.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

No, this client is too ancient as well as its rendering method. Dxtory (or Fraps) do not recognize it at all. I'll try to find you an alternative to workaround your issue.

EDIT: Sheesh, installing this Runescape "oldschool" is a pain in the ass. But anyway, I got it working and found you a workaround. Here is how my final video test looks like, I do hope this is the version of the game you were referring to: YouTube Link.
Black bars at the side appeared because I forgot to record in 16:9 aspect ratio resolution, instead of simply recording the application size (but I got a feeling this game doesn't support wide-screen mode anyway and will appear square regardless).

I recorded it with a free capture software called Open Broadcaster Software (download). OBS is one of the best if not THE best free recording software if you want to record your desktop instead of games. When you'll turn on OBS you'll have to right-click in the "sources" white field and add "Monitor Capture". Press ok, then press ok again when a different window pops up.  Now when you start recording with OBS you'll record everything what is displayed on your screen, including RuneScape.

(Optional) How to crop everything except RuneScape window like in the previously linked video: Go to "Monitor Capture" settings by simply double-clicking on already loaded Monitor Capture. Then tick "sub-region" and click "Select Region". You can adjust the edges of appeared white box, OBS will record only what is inside the box, press Enter when you are done adjusting. Memorize the "Size" value, this is the white box resolution. Press ok. Go to Settings - Settings - Video - tick Custom and type that resolution value. Now OBS will record only that box and will automatically crop out everything else.

Hope it helps.

Hi RobiePAX,

Thanks for your reply.

It does work great, thank you. However in your video the quality seems better and my mouse cursor is slightly blurred.

What did you do to change the quality, I have currently increased the quality balance to 10 but that doesn't seem to do much.

Ah right by default it records at low bitrate. Forgot that part.

In Settings - Settings - Encoding raise the bitrate to 50000 kb/s which is 50 MB/s. Also quality balance? It's sounds like your CBR is turned off, turn it on. Below is a screenshot of my settings. It's is your choice which Encoder you wish to use depending on your hardware brand.

As for blurriness, it usually comes either from low bitrate or when you are "upscaling" the video which basically means stretching. RuneScape shouldn't have anymore more than 480p on YouTube, or else it means the video was upscaled since this game version doesn't support widescreen HD resolutions.
