FPS dropping to 15-25fps (Outlast, Afterfall InSanity...)
« on: November 11, 2014, 02:39:09 am »
Hey,

I bought my copy of Dxtory about 5 months ago, everything worked perfectly, the gameplay was smooth and it stayed on 144fps when I was recording on 60fps - just like I wanted to.
About 2 weeks ago when I decided to start recording Outlast (I have recorded it earlier, and it worked perfectly), as soon as I hit record both my gameplay fps and the recording fps drop to around 20fps, which is unbearable.

Then I thought that my HDD might be overloaded etc. so I didn't worry about it too much, until today when I wanted to record Outlast again. So, as you can guess, the same thing happened, the fps went down to around 20fps so I quit playing/recording Outlast and switched over to Afterfall InSanity (which has also been working PERFECTLY) and boom, it happened on this game also, the fps went to 20fps again and it made recording/playing unbearable.

This issue is not in every game that I record though, for example when I play COD: AW, the recording works well, my gameplay fps is around 90 (COD AW caps the fps on 90) and recording on 60fps (just like I want it to be), but every now and then, when I'm playing COD: AW and Dxtory is on, the game crashes. (Not sure if it's because Dxtory, but I can't figure out any other reason)

So... What now? Everything has been working perfectly, but suddenly things have gone downhill, I haven't changed any Dxtory settings, so it's not that either. I've been using the Lagarith Lossless codec and here are my PC specs:
GPU: GeForce GTX Titan Black
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 16GB RAM
Current resolution: 1920 x 1080, 144Hz
OS: Windows 8.1.

EDIT: Noticed that the environment information is needed, so here you go:

Found a solution, I don't know if my Nvidia settings were reset at some points, but I tweaked them a little bit and now Dxtory records at solid 60fps again.  :)

Would you share what you changed in the drivers to fix the issue ?  I'm sure others will come along with the same problem for these games.

Using Windows 10 ?  Try the latest version first http://exkode.com/dxtory-downloads-en.html

Would you share what you changed in the drivers to fix the issue ?  I'm sure others will come along with the same problem for these games.

Well, basically I changed my NVIDIA 3D settings to the following:
Part 1 http://gyazo.com/56ce79080e2a0c7de7945a173a3ea1dc
Part 2 http://gyazo.com/d895049b793e3490f07af292ce74706c

I also changed my Power option settings from balanced to high performance, but I'm not sure which one of these two (NVIDIA 3D settings or Power Option settings) did the trick.

Hope this helps!
