Audio not synced to video

Hello I'm using the Lagarith Lossless Codec and I have an audio problem. Audio is synced perfectly at the beginning of the video but becomes de-synced towards the end. How do I fix this?

Tigrisshark

I have the same problem, whether using synchronous or asynchronous frame capture, my audio drifts slowly apart. The fact that it is synced at the start and then drift apart really gives you few options to fix it.

Tigrisshark

For me this happens regardless of the codec I am using and seems to be a general problem of dxtory. Right now I have to edit every single video after recording manually to get the sound into sync (which is quite annoying).
I tried using different settings on dxtory, such as lower color-complexity, asynchronous recording, adjusting recording threads, advanced options relating to frame drop, but nothing seems to work.

As the problem is persistent over multiple applications, I don't think it has something to do with performance. Really bummed out because of this; strangely it appeared over night.

Tigrisshark

Not trying to threadjack here, but as we haven't gotten any responses yet I preemptively pulled my env-info; perhaps dennis can do the same so we can compare settings/specs.

Tigrisshark

So roughly a month without any help whatsoever.
Shame, but I think I have to find myself another capturetool. Can't say that I'm happy with the support you get by ExKode for a purchase.

ExKoder

It is unfixable by the Dxtory side.
It is because the cause of the problem is unknown.

Tigrisshark

How does dxtory handle framerates running below the one specified in dxtory? does it write lower framerates or does it insert blank frames? The former could be a cause for desync, no?

Tigrisshark

Is there a way to get a refund on dxtory?
Obviously, dxtory has a major bug here, considering that this problem happens regardless of codec and other similar software doesn't have these issues.

jtl999

I have this problem was a recorder by a company that ends with Smith from Michigan but not Dxtory. Seems like you are getting the same problem but in Dxtory.

jtl999

Is your mic audio out of sync or game? What sound card do you use? Do you have any audio enhancements enableed particularly related to the microphone?

Tigrisshark

The first part you can see from the env-info above; to the second part: No, no extra- but the audio issue is coming from directly from game sound. This issue is known for a long time with dxtory, somehow has never been fixed. You can find a lot of threads on the internet and even this forum.
It's a pretty shitty deal, buying a software and then finding out it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Waiting for weeks for an answer only to get a "doesn't work, go away"...

De-M-oN

The problem is putting H.264 into an AVI Container and even rawcapping that ... And you're wondering?...
The problem is using strange audio config
and so on. You're doing so much things wrong...

___

Change Video Codec to Lagarith Lossless Codec and config it to Mode: YV12, [ x ] Multithreading
Change Audio to 44100hz, 16bit, Stereo for gamesound and 44100hz, 16bit, mono for microphone. Your settings are ridicilous ...
Enable Synchronous Surface Lock and Wait for available Buffer.

QuoteQ11: What'st the difference between VFW and CLI?
A: VFW is Video For Windows, an ancient tech created by microsoft (copying some stuff from quicktime), full of quirks and not able to support modern codecs. x264VFW is a ugly hack to make x264 work (more or less) with VFW, hence softwares like virtualdub and its modifications. The use of x264VFW is NOT recommended. x264 VFW is no longer officially supported.
CLI is a general term that means Command Line Interface. The classic console (command prompt) command which is generic and has no limitations like VFW.

QuoteQ19: Can i use VirtualDub or any other VFW based editor to encode with x264?
A: Yes, using a x264 VFW build but VFW is so obsolete and limited x264VFW is no longer mantained by the x264 devs and because VFW and AVI are not properly able to handle h.264 features without some "hacking" that could compromise compatibility, playback and/or editing.

and especially this:

QuoteThe thing about applying the same hacks as was used in ASP is that ASP is bad enough to do that to, but H.264's featureset is much more expansive in regard to B-frames, the B-pyramid, etc. Using said hacks to put H.264 in AVI often isn't sufficient enough to ensure that the audio remains synced, in the case of numerous B-frames and especially the B-pyramid. The only way around it is to disable those features, but that results in benefit being lost. It'll still perform well, but not as well as it could have.

Realtime capturing should be done lossless and not with H.264 in an absolutely unsuitable container..

Tigrisshark

Hey thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately it's not the codec. I changed that multiple times and at last tried using just the regular dxtory with pcm for audio. Still on a 10 minute video the videostream is 9:57 and the audio is 10:03 long.
I've used lagarith several times and it changed nothing.

I'm now using Bandicam with the very H264-codec you said to be prone to this problem and it works like a charm.

So to recap: The only thing I really did wrong is to use dxtory. And paying for it. Hopefully others will see this thread and the inability to get a refund for a broken piece of software and take this into account when choosing a screengraber.

Malix

the app works for majority as intended, and did you seriously buy the software before trying it? you do realize you can try it out before purchase?

Tigrisshark

If you would have bothered to read all of my postings you would find:

  • It appeared overnight
  • I've waited for over a month to get any reply here.
  • The license was bought for myself, not the majority of people
  • Initially I had hoped for help here, but none was given
  • The developer stated here that it is "unfixable by dxtory side", yet when I use Bandicam with the excact same settings it works fine.
Kind of makes it a problem on the dxtory side, doesn't it?
  • After it became apparent that there won't be a fix for this issue, I simply asked for a refund- because of the above. I don't think that is unreasonable considering I paid 3600¥ for this and got neither a working product nor support in any shape or form.

Given these 6 points, do you think it's unreasonable that I am just a bit disappointed in this product and company?
