I have two codecs... The one you recommended and one I installed after these issues (snapshot included as attachment). I don't know how to uninstall the other ones, otherwise I would have done so easily.

You can remove x264 if you will be installing K-Lite, since it has it included anyway. Other codecs are already installed on your PC and don't have uninstallers and it would be a bit difficult explaining the process of getting rid of them individually. Just ignore the rest, hopefully K-Lite will fix any issues if it detects any.

I recommend buying Adobe Premiere Elements 12. It works well with DxTory, supports the codec just fine. I also had the same problem as you. I bought into Sony, and it didn't work. And customer service was horrible. Never buy from Sony again. Waste of money.

However Adobe Premiere Elements works just fine. Go get the trial first to make sure everything works well. Don't steal, but it will cost you $100.

Being an Adobe user I mostly agree, though being an Adobe user I can also tell there are little changes included in past 2 years. 10th, 11th and 12th version will all work fine. 12th right now is an overkill in comparison to 11th because there's seriously nothing notable to pay extra 30-40$ for.

Well, that definitely did something. It disabled two codecs and did something with the registry. It did make Lagarith work with Windows Movie Maker, although Lagarith seems to be a bit slow to start recording, so I might just stick with Dxtory (as they both work with Adobe Premiere Elements 12, which I will probably be purchasing). Thank you for your help.

Cool, thankfully we hit the spot and now your codecs are sorted out as they should be at least. This fix also applies to a lot of other software which might be installed on your PC too that uses AVI output, so it's all good.

although Lagarith seems to be a bit slow to start recording, so I might just stick with Dxtory (as they both work with Adobe Premiere Elements 12, which I will probably be purchasing).
In technical operations Lagarith is faster than Dxtory codec. You have mentioned "a bit slow to start recording", do you mean that after you press the record button it just hangs there for 3-5 seconds and starts going? If so that is normal and will happen with any codec or any capture program if you are recording on a secondary Hard Drive. What basically is happening that Windows detects that your Hard Drive is spinning for no reason at all and you are not doing anything with it for a long while so windows shuts it down , similar how monitor and PC might go to "sleep" if you won't use it for some time. When you tell Dxtory to start recording, it has to waits for Hard Drive to starts spinning first. I personally just take a screenshot to wake it up from in-game since I'm too lazy to search how to turn off hard drive sleep mode :P

Ultimately, it's your choice which codec you wish to use of course. I'm only saying that Lagarith is indeed faster, and you are right Adobe Premiere will process any codec indeed. If you'll manage to find a cheaper price for APE 10 version or 11 version then go for them. 10th is like XP, it had a very simple and easy to learn interface which was great. 11th felt like Vista because in 12th it seems they fixed everything I hated about 11th inconvenience and remade interface design. Of course that could be just a matter of preference. All versions from 10 to 12 work perfectly fine with Dxtory, Fraps and Open Broadcaster Software, tested myself.

That software you recommended has messed up my computers audio (both playback and recording) beyond repair. Every time my system makes a sound, it makes a very annoying crackling noise, my microphone no longer even records my voice in an audiable volume, and my 7.1 surround sound settings have been COMPLETELY removed from my computer. Why is it that you can never fix something without making everything 20 times worse.
