[Event]
When I start Dxtory, an error message appears "Fail Init Module." Dxtory then crashes.

[Condition of an event]
When Dxtory starts, it crashes.

[Attempted fixes]

  • Updated Dxtory to latest version 2.0.128, rebooted computer, no effect.
  • Ran Windows Update which downloaded and installed several updates, reboot, no effect.

I could not find my exact issue anywhere, but I did read that .NET Framework could be the root of some issues with Dxtory, so I took some shots in the dark:

  • Tried to install .NET Framework patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2750147 just in case, failed: "Software Update KB2750147 Installation Wizard does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
  • Checked .NET Framework version: 4.5.1, tried to uninstall in order to do a clean install, failed: ".NET Framework 4.5.1 has not been removed from this computer because: Unknown trust provider."
  • Used .NET Framework Verification Tool http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx to verify .NET Framework 4.5.1 is intact: Product verification succeeded!

[Environment Information]
As I cannot start Dxtory without it crashing, I cannot get Environment Information.

[Error Log]
I did not find ErrorLog.txt, Dxtory_log.txt or CapConv_log.txt in Dxtory folder.
EDIT: Could not find any of these anywhere under C:\Windows\Users either.

[Dxtory Version]
Dxtory version is now 2.0.128.

When problem started, Dxtory version was 2.0.126. Updating Dxtory had no effect.

[CPU]
Intel Core i5-3570K @ 3.40GHz

[OS]
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1

[Some additional background information]
Last time I used Dxtory, it worked fine, but "last time" was several weeks back. I only noticed the problem today after installing my new USB 3.0 3TB external hard drive. I intended to test Dxtory's record speed on said hard drive when Dxtory crashed on start for the first time.

During the several weeks since last using Dxtory successfully, I've installed numerous things. Things I've installed, taken from my Control Panel's Programs and Features, in reverse chronological order:

  • Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.30514.0
  • Dxtory 2.0.128
  • Adobe Flash Player 14 plugin 14.0.0.179
  • Avira 1.1.19.30000
  • Vuze 5.4.0.0
  • Adobe Reader X 10.1.11
  • Java 8 update 11 (64-bit) 8.0.110
  • Java 8 update 11 8.0.110
  • Dropbox 2.10.27
  • Avira Free Antivirus 14.0.6.552

mebs

Issue is still unresolved and I don't know what to do. Please help. I'm unable to use the product at all.

Malix

is there a bootlog?

QuoteLocation of BootLog.txt
C:\Users\(USER NAME)\AppData\Local\Dxtory Software\Dxtory2.0\BootLog.txt

by default appdata is a hidden folder, I think.

mebs

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I found a boot log under C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Dxtory Software\Dxtory2.0

Have you tried booting into safe mode and then trying to run DxTory?

I have not. Thank you for the suggestion, I will try this now.

mebs

I restarted Windows in safe mode and tried to run Dxtory. It gave me the same error message on startup: Fail Init Module, and crashed as before.

ExKoder

The cause is not found.
If it is clean environment, a problem will not occur logically.

Create a new user account.  Make it admin like your current one (i assume this is the case as its given by default AFAIK).  Login using the new account and try running DxTory then.

I think this is what ExKoder means by "Clean Environment"???  i could be wrong.

Thank you, I was confused about that. I will try that.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened again. Fail Init Module :(

Malix

if you read his link, there he says

Quote
If OS is in a normal state, a problem will not occur.

A cause is unknown although the generating place has become clear.
If it is the problem which occurred at the period, aren't there any common software or patch?

so, maybe you guys have some common driver, background application or OS update that causes that...

mebs

I did a clean re-install of Windows 7. I had several reasons for doing this, not just Dxtory, so I thought I might as well.

Dxtory now starts up normally, issue resolved.

chronosek

I had the same problem today ... but was to tired to reinstall system
Checking logs and japanese threads lead to conclusion that my system could not update ctl root certificates, and dxtorycore.dll was not certified
(not try it in home) nah so i installed as admin "AddTrust External CA Root" from https://support.comodo.com/index.php?/Default/Knowledgebase/Article/View/917/91/
and it solvced that problem
