DXtory Crashes Game(s) on Capture

Mike

When I attempt to capture with the DXtory codec (and a couple others), the game will crash instantly. This first occurred after updating to .123; I clean-installed .122 and problem persisted. Clean-installed back to .123 and problem persisted.

Intel and MS Video codecs capture, but the footage is either stuttery, or to colors are incorrect. I assume this is due to the codecs.

Please submit a ErrorLog.txt.

When it crashes, isn't there some information?

I think that there is a problem in a video driver or hardware.
Update a video driver and test a memory.

Mike

I just updated my video drivers and no change. Ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it found no issues.

Hello! I have the exact same problem as Mike. I start DxTory and then ANY game. When I hit record game crashes. I tried many different games. It is Dxtory 2.0.122.

Mike

I've tried it a few more times:

The same thing has been happening to me! DXTory is unusable!

Malix

I'm no expert, but the error log seems to say something about handling the video file. Have you installed codec packs or such?
Or possibly the access rights to the recording directory might be off:is it read only, for instance? is your user account allowed to write into it? does the folder actually exist?

Mike

Well, it worked flawlessly for 6 months and I had not made any changes recently.

I've updated my video drivers, and I'm sure Java / Flash ran some updates. Other than that, I updated to version .123 of DXtory. No OS updates, hardware changes, etc.

Did not start fiddling with settings within the program until issues emerged.

Mike

I installed a 32-bit H264 codec that is being recognized by dxtory, no hiccups in capture so far. DXtory codec still crashing.

Malix

so... if problem is dxtory codecs, don't use them? I do get that it is weird that they cause crashes, but until a fix arrives, use different codec?

good, possibly better replacements:

Ut Video Codec
dev's blog:http://umezawa.dyndns.info/wordpress/?cat=28
downloads: http://umezawa.dyndns.info/archive/utvideo/?C=M;O=D

Lagarith
http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html

both are lossless, very fast and have quite good compression ratios. 32 and 64 bit variants available for both.

Mike

I have been testing different codecs and didn't have another suitable codec until yesterday. I have had the best luck with the DXtory codec and would prefer to continue using that one.

It's been 2 weeks since my first post with no further developments beyond potential issues with my drivers or memory, which I have ruled out.

Mike

Update? DXtory codec still crashes. Using some others at the moment, but with less desirable results.
