Help with 1440p 60 FPS Recording

Hello all!

I recently upgraded to a 1440p monitor and I'm loving it. I'm trying to get Dxtory to record in 1440p 60FPS, but I can't. My guess is that 2 7200RPM drives in RAID 0 just isn't enough. I'm willing to grab 2 more to do a 4-drive raid. But I'm looking for confirmation on the issue, before I place the order.  So here are the stats for the stuff that matters for recording:

i7 4770k @4.8Ghz
16GB DDR3 RAM
1 120GB SSD for OS/programs
1 1TB SSD for games
2 1TB WD Black 7200 RPM drives in RAID 0 for recording

When I try to record 1440p 60FPS, I end up getting around 45-50FPS. So I'm guessing that my HDD's can only handle that much data. My goal is to record 1440p 60FPS with minimal impact on performance (I know that may be very tough). So tell me what I need to get! :) Are there better/faster 7200 RPM drives, or just better all-around configurations for recording?

I tried a different codec that I used for 1080p recording (Matrox), and it gets stuck at the initialization stage and generates an error in Dxtory:

This is my setup :

CPU - i7-5960X OC'd 4.2Ghz
GPU - Titan X OC
Mem - 64Gb DDR4 2133Mhz
OS Drive - 500Gb 850 Pro SSD
Monitor - Asus ROG Swift 2560x1440 144Mhz
Recording drive - 2 x 1Tb WD Black in RAID0
Editing software - Adobe Premiere Pro
Dxtory version - 2.0.132 (noticed that ver. 2.0.133 was released today so I will try that when I get home)

And I've not managed to get 1440p60fps yet. Like you I've got a RAID0 setup of 2xWD Black drives, but write speed still doesn't seem good enough. I'm guessing for that kinda data you'd need an SSD? Or possibly a third HDD?

If you manage to get it working would be keen to know how you managed it :-)

I have FOUR 1Tb Seagate Barracuda.14s in raid 0 to accomplish 1440p60 recording.
ATTO speed test results
My current recording drives written in blue text.
It's quite fast but it still lacks speed for 4K at 60fps using the Dxtory codec  :'(

aznricepuff

HDD write throughput may not be your bottleneck. It could be that the codec you are using is not fast enough at encode.

I use utvideo and have no problem getting 1440p60 recording. For yuv420 a single WD black (~140MBps seq write) is sufficient. yuv422 or RGB would require 2 WD blacks in RAID0 or an SSD with at least 150MBps (for yuv422)/250MBps (for RGB) sequential write.

For 4k60fps you would need at least two SSDs in RAID0 (and a fast processor).

For 4k60fps you would need at least two SSDs in RAID0 (and a fast processor).

Never even thought about this. Thanks for the tip will look into it.

I use MagicYUV and after some tweaking of power settings and my overclock in the BIOS Dxtory records just fine with no stutter.

One thing I have had to do on more recent titles is to set the Delay Hook to 20 seconds in Dxtory's advanced settings. This seems to resolve any conflicts with anti-cheat software, for example Easy AntiCheat on GRW or Battleye for R6
