Author Topic: [!!!] Recordings have lower FPS despite DXtory overlay saying I had solid 60fps  (Read 1879 times)

I have experiences problems similar to these threads:

During recording of some games like Dirt Rally, I am getting solid 60 video FPS and File FPS. However when I go and rewatch my video, it stutters/lags a lot and looks more like ~20 fps. My PC's hard drive (and hardware in general) is not the problem as I have carried out multiple tests including trying out other free recording software.

I have tried the Dxtory codec, the Lagarith one and I am currently using MagicYUV all of which have the same problem. So I doubt it has to do with my codec...

I have also tried every recent version of Dxtory except the ones that were incompatible with the AMD graphics cards. All of them had the same problem. Lastly, I've made sure I have disabled all overlays from other programmes since I heard that could be the cause of the problem. Unfortunately nothing changed.
I would highly appreciate if I got at least a proper answer from some staff in charge of Forum Moderation since I am not the only one experiencing this problem. This needs to be looked into, it makes the product I purchased near useless for some games.

If anyone knows any workaround to this, clean or not, please do tell me since I am desperate to find a fix. Please and thank you.

Your problem is not similar to those you linked. Those have problems with recording FPS.

If you have a problem with playback, that is the issue of the player, not Dxtory's. Lossless codecs are not meant to be re-played, they are used to edit the material, then re-encode into a lossy codec for viewing.

You need to re-encode them into a lossy codec or record in a lossy codec (e.g. x264vfw, do not use the Matrox codec, please).

Deeply sorry for the huge delay of my reply, I have been very sick and was not in the mood to check anything online.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but, how can this be a problem of my video player (Windows Media Player) if this only happens with certain games? It simply makes no sense for me. I'd appreciate it if someone could explain this to me...? Lastly, I decided to shove my recording into a video editor, render it and see if the fps is better when it's all done. Problem is, both my video editors refuse to load the video and just throw errors at me saying "<file directory goes here> could not be loaded". This still occurs no matter which Dxtory codec I choose. Am I this bad at all this or is there really a problem here?

Anyway, I will be downloading some lossy codecs and see if I notice any difference... thanks.

No worries, forums can wait.

Well, higher bitrates can cause the players to stutter.

It could also be a faulty recording, some editing programs can be pretty strict. Which video editors did you use?

Okay so, I did tons of testing and also checked a new post that suggested checking the Force CPU processing box. It ended up fixing my problem with the playback stuttering.

I also managed to locate the problem of my Video Editors not loading the file, it ended up being the MagicYUV codec which apparently doesn't like my Blender Video Editor.. What should I expect from a program that was initially designed for 3D modelling anyway  ;D  :P

Looks like I'll have to end up using Lagarith again  :'( Do you happen to have any other, more modern alternatives? x264vfw was surprisingly heavy for my machine to handle. Dropped down to ~25fps when I normally get 100+

I assume it won't support most newer codecs, you can try UtVideo (that's pretty much on par with MagicYUV).

Lossy encoding is CPU intensive as it has to do alot of computing to compress the video without it losing too much information. There are alot of settings to be considered to make it run well.
