Large performance hit when recording BF1

I've been using Dxtory with the magicyuv codec quite successfully for some time, but am hitting some surprising performance problems when trying to record Battlefield 1.  There's generally very little reduction in my framerate, but I am losing ~40% of my FPS while recording battlefield.  The recording framerate is fine, it's the in-game framerate that's suffering.

Is anyone else experiencing the same?  Anyone have any solutions or workarounds?  Environment info is below.

It's not unlikely that recording has a substantial performance impact, especially at 60fps.

I guess the reason for my post is that the impact is far higher than usual in this one game.  I'm not expecting recording to be free, just hoping that in BF1 specifically there's something I can do to make the cost less.

You could try some settings (independently, to see if some things give some advantage):

  • In the advanced settings tab, set "Force CPU Processing"
  • Depending on the setting you have in MagicYUV, try setting the colourspace to "YUV 4:2:0" if you have set it to something higher
  • Change the compression method of MagicYUV to "Predict Gradient"
  • Use a different codec like UtVideo
