Hey there,

I want to use Dxtory to real-time stream to my girlfriend with sync sound, so that she can watch me play while we call. (I know it won't be perfectly realtime, but you know what i mean)
So far we did it with Skype Screenshare but the framerate is kind of bad, it lags often and is not snyc. And all that happens even with a really low resolution so the internet is not a problem.
Anyway, i downloaded Dxytory Trial to test it before buying, and I set it up, checked the "DirectShow Output" but when i want to call her in Skype and set my Web cam to "Dxtory 1" it says there is no web cam connected. I tried it with other softwares, always the same. I can record to my hard drive, but that is obviously useless.
Here is the Environment Information, there is no entry in the log and error log. Also, its the older version because I thought it would maybe work with that one. I tried the newest version but it did not work either. Net Framework is installed.
Thank you for any kind of help <3

Anyway, i downloaded Dxytory Trial to test it before buying, and I set it up, checked the "DirectShow Output" but when i want to call her in Skype and set my Web cam to "Dxtory 1" it says there is no web cam connected. I tried it with other softwares, always the same. I can record to my hard drive, but that is obviously useless.

Skype deliberately forbids use of virtual cameras (presumably to keep people from streaming movies that way). It worked in older versions of Skype, but it was changed a while after Microsoft bought the company.

It works just fine in other video-call software like Jitsi though.

Oh my oh my, now i feel terribly stupid. Thank you very much. In the program it seemed to work, i will try it as soon as possible with my girlfriend and then report back. Thank you very much <3

whyisherfireblue

OKay im really sorry i have to ask, but i totally dont get the software. How do i set up a connection to make a videocall? All protocols i tried arent working or were shut down or what ever. Ahh i feel so stupid right now.

I will assume you are talking about Jitsi.

The various network account types are just the means with which you make contact with the person you want to call. Unfortunately, they are listed in alphabetical order, which in this case happens to put the most useful ones at the bottom.

  • If both of you already have accounts of one of the supported types, just use that. Specifically, if you both have Google accounts, you might be able to use the "Google Talk" account type.
  • If you need to create new accounts, the typical way would be to go with XMPP, assuming of course that you can find a registrar that is still running. There is a list of them here. Many of them are sadly down, including the original one at jabber.org.
  • Another option is to register a SIP account with Ekiga.
Note that Ekiga is also the name of another VoIP program (similar to Jitsi), but the account should work with either software.
  • If you are willing to get a little more technical, you can also use registrar-less SIP accounts. The documentation states that this is intended for local networks only, but it works over the Internet as well if you configure your firewalls correctly.

Once you both have accounts of the same type, just add each other as contacts. From there, making an actual call should be fairly obvious.

Note however that getting game audio working properly with this setup can be quite complicated. It is much easier to use dedicated streaming solutions (like Steam Broadcasting or OBS Studio), though they will typically have higher latency.

whyisherfireblue

Thanks for the answers man, you are my hero!

It seems as if most accounts, like facebook and Google arent working anymore. I tried it with Ekiga, but it could not connect to the SIp account for some reason. I try the registrar less SIP account next. Do you know if we both need to open our ports for that? And do they have to be the same ports?

The only ones I know for sure are working are XMPP and registar-less SIP. I got my XMPP account on jabber.org years ago - when they still took registrations - so I do not know much about the other registrars or other account types.

QuoteI try the registrar less SIP account next. Do you know if we both need to open our ports for that?

I am not sure, but I suspect you both need to do it.

QuoteAnd do they have to be the same ports?

Probably. Unless you have some really compelling reason, I would stick with the default port numbers.
