Lost Recording Time

I recently recorded live game play that lasted over two hours.  When I was editing my video I realized that about half way through the recording, the video jumped from one scene to the next, as if I had stopped and started recording, which I had not.  The 32.8 GB file recorded was 1:47:43 in length, but I somehow lost over 20 minutes of recording at the 1:04:29 point.  It simply jumps from one scene to the next.  The voice and game sounds match up with the game play so the audio was lost as well.  Has this ever happened to anyone and is there anyway to prevent this from happening again?  I would attach the file, but it is too large to upload.

If this have happened to your actual raw (original) video file, then it sounds like your recording Hard Drive is failing. You should scan it for bad sectors, but it might be simply dying.

I'm not sure what else could corrupt your video in such way. That's why you should always when possible make breaks in the video at least once every hour, to stop recording and start a new recording right away or over some time. Less risk this way, and you won't normally record over 1 hour long video straight to YouTube anyway.

Thanks for the info!  I normally do not record beyond 20 to 25 minutes because it is easier to edit, but I was playing a Ultra Hardcore game wasn't able to do the breaks I normally do.  I have a brand new Dell XPS 8700 and it should not have any bad sectors, but I will run a check to see if it is defective.
