I'll try out that codec you suggested, but I tried out so many that I am just expecting it to fail.
How about Adobe Elements 12, I have heard that 13 is bad
Yeah 13 is VERY bad... it doesn't exist yet :P

I assume you meant 11 vs 12. I'm pretty sure you can get 10 or 11 and you won't miss out much for not getting 12. I'm looking at changes for past few versions, I don't really see anything notable except that after version 10 and later has full 64-bit support.

Trials are free, I would suggest downloading them and trying out(also to verify any crashing issues). If you are on tight budget you might consider 10. Though naturally the older the software, the higher chances are of incomparability, but again that's why there are trials and plenty of time for testings.

Really? Where can I get the trials of 10 and 11? I was about to buy 12 because so far with this trial of 12 it has been working flawlessly.

I still have both trial installers on my external Hard Drive. If you need them, I can upload them on my Google Drive account and leave the download link.

Hey, replying on here since it shows up in google searches, and was exactly my issue.

The core problem is that the PackBit Codec (which I love!) is a 32 bit DLL.
Movie Studio 13 (for me on my Win64 machine) is a 64 bit exe - It can't use that 32 bit DLL.

Which explains why my old Movie Studio 9 worked fine - because Sony was ONLY releasing a 32 bit version of it at that time.  I would imagine if I force-installed a 32 bit version of Studio 13, that PackBit Codec would work fine.

There doesn't happen to be a x64 release of DXTory/PackBit does there? :)

I remember asking x64 version of packbit waayyy back when, I believe exkoder said that usage of packbit is not recommended (very experimental) and he's not too keen on making it 64bit.
In the same thread I was then introduced to ut video codec & lagarith. Both perform pretty much as fast as packbit, but produce smaller files.
Both come in 32- and 64-bit variants, too, so there is no real need for packbit, imo.
